After a day spent exploring around the town of Jackson, Oregon with the innkeepers of the TouVelle House Bed and Breakfast, Red ventured out onto some of the local trails and tried its hand at gold panning and exploring some old gold mines. Red learned that although the gold rush was brief back in the 1850's, folks ultimately decided to stay because of the fertile farmland and ideal locations for orchards. Although unlucky with finding gold, the Red Chair discovered plenty of amazing wineries!

Ever heard of Geocaching? Thanks to the innkeepers of the Old Parkdale Inn Bed & Breakfast in Parkdale, Oregon the Red Chair has now become hooked! Geocaching is a fun outdoor treasure hunt and caches can be found all over the world. (I accidentally stumbled upon a cache in the town of Sandwich, MA once.) The picture featured above is one of the Red Chair's discoveries on Mt. Hood, one of Oregon's 7 Wonders and is nearby to the Old Parkdale Inn. The rules of the game: find the cache, write in the log book, leave your trinket then take another trinket to trade at the next cache you find. Maybe Red will get a chance to find more throughout its travels!
Red's final surprise while staying with Kristin at Chehalem Ridge B&B was to don the appropriate headgear and enjoy the parade at the 16th Annual UFO Festival in McMinnville, which commemorates the 1950 Trent sighting in which two local citizens witnessed and photographed a UFO. It is not every day when a piece of red furniture can put on an aluminum hat and have Princess Leia grace its seat, what an awesome day!
The Red Chair got the chance to try out the perks of farm life at the Sakura Ridge Farm and Lodge this past June, and it was loads of fun! Because Red was on a large farm, Red had to ride the John Deere Gator to get around. Red ended up coming down with "Green Fever" which is a common farmer's disease... they love all things John Deere Green. And not to mention the Gator was TONS of fun to drive around!
While staying near by at the Yamhill Vineyards Bed and Breakfast, Red decided to hike a quarter of a mile to Willamette Valley's largest Erratic Rock. This 90 ton rock arrived in Oregon during the Ice Age Floods (according to the Oregon State Parks website) about 12,000-17,000 years ago by way of an iceberg from the Northern Rocky Mountains. This special and unique rock commands a wonderful view of the valley and is an activity the Red Chair recommends people who visit the area must add to their to-do list!
The Red Chair couldn't help but to get out and frolic among the crimson clover field when it was on its way back to the Feller House Bed and Breakfast in Aurora, Oregon. No wonder bumble bees and honey bees are drawn to these flowers, they smell so sweet! After quite a bit of time searching for a four leave clover, luck was not with the Red Chair Travels this time. No worries though, the Red Chair will be back to keep searching in the future!
The Red Chair visited the R. R. Thompson House Bed and Breakfast in Carlton, Oregon back in April of 2015. It was such a perfect trip! Also called "The Front Porch of Wine Country" Carlton is located in the Willamette Valley in the heart of Oregon Wine Country. The Red Chair Travels was able to visit a vineyard near town, where bud break had begun just says earlier, how cool! This is an exciting time when the new growth cycle begins, culminating in the fall harvest. Red is excited to experience the entire process, especially the finished product!
Next door to the chickens, at The Carlton Inn Bed and Breakfast, is the smallest Pinot Noir Vineyard in Carlton! The Red Chair got a chance to inspect the vines up close, and found they were starting to show the first signs of the fruit clusters. Red loves supporting local products, especially wine! It is quite a special experience to see where some of our most favorite foods or beverages begin so we can appreciate them fully when we see the finished product! Thank you for the behind the scenes tour!!
Since Red was visiting the one and only Napa Valley it decided that it must try to taste as many wines as possible. What better way to do it than a tour with Platypus Tours! Red got into the stand-up limousine and proceeded to four different wineries for delicious tastings with a wonderful new group of friends. At the last winery a beautiful picnic was set up and waiting for everyone as well as more world class wines that could only be from beautiful Napa Valley! What a great suggestion of being able to experience quite a bit of the area with only a short amount of time!
Newport, Oregon is home to the NOAA, the Oregon coast Aquarium and the US Coast Guard. There was so much for the Red Chair to see and experience here! The first stop was a visit to the US Coast Guard helicopter where Red was a big hit with the boys serving the Newport community. The Red Chair learned that since Newport is the largest commercial fishing area on the Oregon coast, they are very busy keeping everyone safe. It was exciting to get a chance to see all of the behind the scenes of the US Coast Guard!
