Newport, Oregon is home to the NOAA, the Oregon coast Aquarium and the US Coast Guard. There was so much for the Red Chair to see and experience here! The first stop was a visit to the US Coast Guard helicopter where Red was a big hit with the boys serving the Newport community. The Red Chair learned that since Newport is the largest commercial fishing area on the Oregon coast, they are very busy keeping everyone safe. It was exciting to get a chance to see all of the behind the scenes of the US Coast Guard!

Red has been very impressed with the many wilderness trails in the McKenzie Valley surrounding Red's current host the McKenzie River Inn Bed & Breakfast and Cabins in Vida, OR. The McKenzie trail is recognized as the #1 mountain bike trail by many and hikers alike will take any opportunity to travel this 26 mile long trail. Coming off the hikes Red rested in the orchard of the McKenzie River Inn to soak up more sun and to take in the blossoms of the many fruit trees especially those from the Japanese plum and felt more than ever an outdoorsy chair…
