Inn at Red Hill
Keedysville, MD
September 14-16th, 2013
The Red Chair is now onto the 6th state and 31st stop on this cross country journey, which brings it to the beautiful and historical Inn at Red Hill in Keedysville, MD. The Red Chair spent time wandering around the grounds observing all of the wildlife and gardens, overall just relaxing in the oasis of the surrounding acres of woodlands. While talking to Innkeeper Cindy about exciting things to do, Red picked out a few things that were absolutely necessary to see before it could move on to the next stop.
First stop was the Red Heifer Winery in Smithsburg, MD where Red had some delicious wine and strawberries. After a quick libation, Red was given a tour of the vineyards where the owners proceeded to explain how they plant, grow, harvest and bottle their unique wines. Next it was on to the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD, where the Red Chair learned that the Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. Red was so glad it was able to experience this very historical and unique place.
The day was quite warm so Innkeeper Cindy took the Red Chair to Nutter's, for some of their fantastic white chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream (this was one of Cindy's "must try" for Red to do before it left). With the day winding down and the heat cooling a bit the Red Chair finished its tour with a bike ride on the C&O Canal National Park. Stopping at Snyder's Landing, which is mile 76.6 of the 184 mile trail, Red posed for a quick picture before heading back to the Inn at Red Hill for a long and well deserved rest in their hammock.
