Absury Ocean Beach Inn
Asbury Park, NJ
July 26-28th, 2013
The beautiful Asbury Ocean Beach Inn in Asbury Park, NJ was host to the Red Chairs for a few magical days. Although arriving for one of the Inn's busiest weekends ever (including two unexpected trips to the ER) the hosts of the Red Chair provided the Red Chair with a plethora of information about what to see and do on its first night and apologized they could not give Red the VIP tour. Being in this industry itself the Red Chair knew the guests always come first! So the Red Chair went off on its own to venture around the beautiful city of Asbury Park. Red borrowed one of their cruiser bikes to enjoy this extremely bicycle friendly area and was off to check out the Asbury Park Boardwalk, award winning beaches, downtown restaurants, shops and so much more! Sometimes wandering alone you find some of the most amazing people, places, and things which is exactly what the Red Chair was able to experience here!
The Pillars of Plainfield Bed and Breakfast, Plainfield, NJ
July 23-25th, 2013
While staying at the Pillars of Plainfield Bed and Breakfast in Plainfield, NJ, the Red Chair was able to see some exciting exhibits found only right in Plainfield! The Red Chair's favorite experience was when it visited the Drake House Museum. It was originally built in the 1730's and it was used by George Washington himself during the Revolutionary War as a meeting place with his officers. The Red Chair got to see the bed that George Washington actually slept in!
The innkeepers decided to take Red on a tour through the Van Wyck Brooks Historic District which is where the Pillars is located. Red just became captivated by the beauty of the buildings! The Innkeepers explained that in the 1890's the homes in this district belonged to over 100 millionaires!
The Red Chair visited the children's room of the Plainfield Public Library, which is now a tropical rainforest, it made a trip to the Swain Gallery to check out one of the oldest continuing businesses in Plainfield which currently was showing local student art work from the DuCret School of Art, and got a massage at the Healing Hands Spa. The Red Chair even got to meet the Mayor of Plainfield, Sharon Robinson-Briggs! The Red Chair is sad to be leaving but has absolutely loved visiting the Pillars of Plainfield!

The Wooden Duck Bed & Breakfast, Newton, NJ
July 14-17th, 2013
The Red Chair had such a great time while staying at the Wooden Duck Bed & Breakfast with Innkeepers Beth and Karl Krummel. They decided the first stop should be the local Chamber of Commerce Office to learn about all that Sussex County has to offer. Red saw the large rack full of brochures and was instantly inspired to fit in as much as possible!
The Red Chair spent a lot of time participating in outdoor activities such as golfing at a local golf course, hiking in the local Stokes State Forest on the Criss Trail and a section of the Appalachian Trail, admiring the view from the top of Sunrise Mountain, wine tasting at the Westfall Winery, and relaxing in the backyard of the Wooden Duck B&B with a variety of wildlife. One of the most exciting things Red was able to do was to sit in the cockpit of an authentic WWII bi-plane at the Andover-Aeroflex Airport! Had Red been there over the weekend, Red could have gone for a flight! The Red Chair loved its time in Newton, NJ and will definitely be back to visit!
