The Kate Shepard House Bed & Breakfast
Mobile, AL
January 24-26th, 2014
When it comes to things to do, the Red Chair Travels found that Mobile was rich with so many different activities, attractions, outdoor adventures and historic pursuits. So with only two days allotted for visiting the Innkeepers of the Kate Shepard House Bed and Breakfast in Mobile, AL, Red chose from some of the Innkeepers favorite spots along the gulf coast. (They gave so many great suggestions!) Red's time was unforgettable as they enjoyed the history, the architecture and the beautiful lush landscaping all just minutes from the B&B. And with a whole year full of festivals and events, The Senior Bowl was this weekends main attraction. From NFL draft prospects to NFL coaches and scouts, the city was bustling with football enthusiasts. And speaking of college football, the Red Chair felt it was no coincidence that it ended up here in a fresh paint of "crimson" red. So much to do in such little time, the Red Chair Travels must make its way back here again to finish the tour!
Sweet Gum Bottom Bed & Breakfast
Andalusia, AL
January 21-23rd, 2014
The Red Chair was so excited to visit Innkeepers Ricky and Laura at the Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast in Andalusia, AL! Red had heard about their breakfast being awarded the title of "Best Breakfast in the Southeast" by Arrington's B&B Journal so of course the Red Chair had to make sure to try it! Innkeeper Laura sat with Red over the most scrumptious breakfast, and shared with Red all of the exciting things that were in store for the day. First up was a day trip to Boggs and Boulders Off Road Adventure Park & Campground. The Red Chair was ready to get down and dirty riding around the mud trails on some of their off road vehicles. Riding around the beautiful trails, Red thought how could it get better than this!? Well that was before the Red Chair got to explore all of the cool caves. It was time to head to the swimming hole for a quick rinse off. But of course since it was the Red Chair it had to harness up and swing in!
Now back on the main road the Innkeepers took Red on a scenic drive, where of course the Red Chair made them pull over quite often to take pictures. Breathtaking views, some interesting animals, a pecan grove, and beautiful old buildings were well documented on Reds camera! They wound up at Gantt Lake where the Red Chair is seen not actually posing for once! It was just so captivated by the magnificent view how could the Innkeepers resist such a candid moment. The last stop of the day was the Historic Covington County Jail. This jail was closed down in the 1970's and housed many different types of criminals from over night stays to serious offenders. Over breakfast the Red Chair learned that this place was considered haunted but being the brave Red Chair that it was it wanted a first hand peak inside. Well all we know is that the Red Chair made it to the window of the Jail before quickly running back to the car... Red wont tell us what it saw but maybe you can go check it out for yourself and be the judge!

Red Bluff Cottage Bed and Breakfast
Montgomery, AL
January 18-20th, 2014
After a quiet first evening at the Red Bluff Cottage Bed and Breakfast in Montgomery, AL, the Red Chair was ready Saturday morning for the excitement to commence! Thank goodness innkeepers Barry and Bonnie Ponstein were well prepared with awesome people and places for the Red Chair to visit while in the area.
The whole day was packed full including a trip to visit the pristine and drop dead gorgeous baby blue Cadillac at the Hank Williams Museum. Red was quite sad to learn the car was retired, as Red would look great in a car like that! Next it was a trip to the Montgomery Riverfront. Although it would have been so much fun to ride the Harriott II Riverboat and view this historic area from the water, Red knew there was so much more to do that it decided to save it for next time. Walking along the riverfront the Red Chair heard entertainers at the Amphitheater performing for a crowd. The innkeepers explained that this Amphitheater this a favorite for some big name entertainers to play here because of the acoustics, welcoming view, and the atmosphere of this outdoor venue. Continuing along the Innkeepers showed the Red Chair the King Memorial Baptist Church where Rev. Martin Luthor King, Jr. Pastored from 1954-1960. From here it was only a short walk to the State Capitol, and my what a beautiful sight it was!
Other stops the Red Chair made were to the Rosa Parks Museum, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Court Square Fountain, the Davis Theater and the Alabama Shakespear Festival theater. Wow and can you imagine all of the places the Red Chair was not able to get to this time?! The F. Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald Museum with their Great Gatsby Bedroom is definitely on the list for next time.

Mistletoe Bough Bed & Breakfast
Alexander City, AL
January 15-17th, 2014
The Red Chair was so excited to visit the Innkeepers of the Mistletoe Bough Bed and Breakfast in Alexander City, AL! Hearing this Inn was listed on the National Historic Register, Red knew that there were some interesting stories to hear from the other furniture. Roaming around the beautiful gardens, and enjoying evenings on the wrap around veranda was just what the Red Chair needed to relax and unwind. Being so close to Lake Martin and Horseshoe Bend National Park was very convenient. Red and Innkeeper JoAnn even walked to Historic Downtown Alexander City where Red got to check out the one remaining soda fountain in Alabama.
